Powell and Nacouzi, International Student-Athlete Recognition

Bloomington, Ind.– Indiana Water Polo juniors Emily Powell and Joelle Nacouzi were part of a group of international student-athletes recognized during halftime of the Indiana Women's Basketball game on January 16. IU President Michael McRobbie and First Lady McRobbie welcomed the Hoosiers onto the court, honoring each athlete and their hard-earned achievements whilst at Indiana.
Powell is an Australian native entering her third season on Indiana's water polo team. She has appeared in a totaled 63 games contributing, 18 goals, 34 assists and 36 steals. During both her freshman and sophomore season's, Powell was awarded CWPA Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team (Outstanding) and ACWPC All-Academic honoree (Outstanding).
Powell's success in the U.S. was put to the test as she participated in the Australian Junior Team League last summer. Representing her home country, she was honored with the opportunity to travel to the Netherlands and Hungary to compete in the 2018 FINA World Women's Junior Water Polo Championship.
Over this past winter break, Powell returned to Australia to attended a week-long training camp in hopes to be chosen for the 2019 Australian Junior Team. With a few more training camps to attend, Powell patiently awaits the announcement for this year's team.
Montreal native, Joelle Nacouzi joins Powell in her third season competing with the Hoosiers. Throughout her collegiate career, she has posted 67 goals, 63 assists, 71 steals and 11 field blocks.
During her freshman and sophomore seasons, Nacouzi was selected for CWPA Tournament All-Star second team as well as the CWPA Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete Team (Superior 2017, Excellent 2018) and received ACWPC All-Academic honorees (Superior 2017, Excellent 2018).
Last season, Nacouzi set an Indiana single-game career record of five steals, the 6thhighest in school history, during the match up against Marist. She also set a personal career high of five assists in a single-game against Santa Clara.
In the off-season, Nacouzi has gone home to compete on the 2017 and 2018 Canadian Junior Team. In 2017, Nacouzi helped lead the Canadians to a gold place victory at the Junior Pan American Championship scoring 10 of the teams' goals during the tournament. The 2018 Canadian Junior team ended with a group-C second-place at the FINA World Women's Junior Water Polo Championships.
