Hoosiers Conclude Day Two of Indiana Relays

BLOOMINGTON, IND.— Indiana Track & Field wrapped up day two of hosting the 2019 Indiana Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Mau continued a strong redshirt junior campaign by setting a personal record in the 3000m with a time of 7:50.17. In a field that saw five runners under the eight-minute mark, Mau ran the second fastest time in the NCAA so far this season.
Also setting a PR was Anna Watson in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared 4.15m (13' 7.25") to take second place.
Haley Harris ran a lifetime best of 4:43.44 in the mile as she took first place. Her time was the 10th fastest time in the nation so far this season.
De'Air kicked off Saturday's events with the 60m hurdle finals. The freshman crossed fifth in a time of 8.99. On the men's side, Christian Goines (8.32) snagged a top three finish while Shaton Vaughn grabbed fifth place and set a personal record time of 8.44.
Zubin Muncherji was the lone Hoosier to compete in the 400m. The sophomore clocked a time of 48.92 to come in third.
Daniel Michalski saw a season best time in the mile as he raced to a second-place finish with a time of 4:01.32. Cooper Williams clocked a time of 4:05.32 to take sixth.
Sarah Schmitt ran unattached in the 3000m to take second with a time of 9:40.57. Grace Walther took third after crossing in a time of 9:42.93.
In the men's 800m, Jalen Royal set a new PR with a time of 1:49.81 to take first place. On the women's side, Kelsey Harris notched first place in a time of 2:05.83.
Afer setting a PR in the 200m last night, Derek Grimmer led off the men's 4x400 relay squad that placed first. Grimmer, Williams, Royal, and Muncherji clocked a time of 3:11.68.
In field events, Khayla Dawson and Maddy Pollard notched the top two spots in shot put. Dawson led the field with a distance of 16.56m (54' 4") while Pollard took second after throwing a distance of 16.45m (53' 11.75"). For the men, Willie Morrison led the Hoosiers with a second-place finish as he saw a distance of 19.09m (62' 7.75"). David Schall nabbed a top five finish with a distance of 18.26m (59' 11").
The men's heptathlon returned for day two of competition. Alex Shinnerl (4,445) led Indiana with a sixth-place finish while Goines (4,435) snagged seventh.
Hope Purcell (3,583) and Jenna Jungels (3,468) saw competition in the women's pentathlon on Saturday afternoon. The pair went back to back to take fourth and fifth place.
Next, the Hoosiers will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. where they will compete at the Power 5 Invite hosted by the University Michigan. The meet will be two days, starting on Feb. 1 at 12:00 p.m. EST.
