Game Notes: Indiana Hosts Rutgers on Bicentennial Homecoming

SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana (3-2, 0-2 B1G East) welcomes Rutgers (1-4, 0-3 B1G East) for the school's 107th Homecoming on Saturday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is set for noon EDT at Memorial Stadium (52,656; FieldTurf) on BTN.
• IU owns a 44-56-6 record on Homecoming.
• The Hoosiers will host the Scarlet Knights for the second time (2015) on Homecoming.
• Saturday marks the sixth meeting between the two programs and the third in Bloomington.
• Indiana has won the last three games in the series: on Nov. 5, 2016 (33-27, A), on Nov. 18, 2017 (41-0, H) and on Sept. 29 2018 (24-17, A).
• IU is 3-2 overall against RU and 1-1 at Memorial Stadium.
• The Hoosiers will wear special uniforms to commemorate the university's bicentennial.
THE COACHES
• Tom Allen was named Indiana's head coach on Dec. 1, 2016, and made his debut at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl against Utah. The New Castle, Ind., native joined IU as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. In Allen's two seasons as head coach, 21 Hoosiers have earned All-Big Ten honors and 15 have been drafted or invited to NFL camps. (full bio on page 18)
• Nunzio Campanile was elevated to interim head coach on Sept. 29, 2019. Campanile, who is in his second year at Rutgers, serves as offensive coordinator. He has also coached running backs (2018) and tight ends (2019).
NEWS & NOTES
• Michael Penix Jr. earned his second Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor after he went 33-of-42 (78.6 percent) for 286 yards with a career-best three passing TDs and one rushing score at No. 25 Michigan State.
• The Tampa native completed a school-record 20-straight passes, the second-longest streak in conference history behind Chuck Long's 22-consecutive completions in 1984.
• Whop Philyor reached double-digits in receptions for a program-record third time with 14 (T-1st nationally in 2019), which shares third on Indiana's single-game list.
• The Tampa Plant graduate topped 100 yards for the third time in his career with 142 yards (6th-most in the B1G in 2019) and hauled in a career-best two scores.
• Philyor's 6.2 grabs per game rank fourth in the league (T-23rd nationally), and his 74.2 yards sit fifth.
• IU is third in the Big Ten in passing offense (304.0, 21st nationally) and third-down conversions (48.5, 14th), and fourth in time of possession (32:47, 20th) and first downs (23.4, T-35th).
• True freshman cornerback Tiawan Mullen broke up a team season-high four passes against the Spartans and shares sixth in the conference with 1.0 passes defended per game.
