Mackenzie Holmes Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week; Player of the Week Honor Roll

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Basketball freshman forward Mackenzie Holmes has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week and to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll of her impressive opening weekend.
Holmes went a combined 83.3 percent from the floor and averaged 18.5 points,6.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in her debut for the No. 24 Hoosiers. On Thursday in her collegiate debut against Mount St. Mary's, the Gorham, Maine native went 6-for-9 from the floor for 15 points and collected seven boards and a block.
She led all scorers on Sunday against Nicholls State, where she scored 22 points by going a perfect 9-for-9 from the field. She also grabbed five rebounds while her five blocks are the fourth most in a single game by a freshman.
Holmes is the first freshman to earn the weekly award for the Hoosiers since Jaelynn Penn did it in back-to-back weeks in her freshman campaign in Jan. 2018 (Jan. 22 and Jan. 29). In addition, Holmes's performance garnered a spot on the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Jackson State. Tipoff at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is set for 2 p.m. ET.
