
IU Softball Announces 2020 Signing Class

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball announced its signing class this week, as four high school seniors, all from the state of Indiana, signed their National Letters of Intent to join the program.
"When my staff and I were hired at Indiana, we set out to recruit the state and region hard and keep the best and the brightest home." Said head coach Shonda Stanton. "We are excited to announce all four signees are Hoosiers and have the opportunity to help enhance IU Softball's visibility on the national level. They are all competitors and accomplished students with strong character who are proud to wear the cream and crimson. We also appreciate the strong support they receive from their families and travel ball organizations. This special group will make an immediate impact."
Aaliyah Andrews
OF | Fort Wayne, Ind. | Leo High School
Andrews will join the team upon graduating from Leo High School in May. She posted a .481 batting average in 2019 while helping the team to the state championship game where they were runners-up. Andrews collected a batting average of .577 her sophomore year and was part of the team that reached semi-state in 2018. She raked in first team all-state in 2018 and second team in 2019. Andrews plays travel ball for the Indiana Gators '02 where they were crowned winners of the Top Gun Showcase, Eastern Elite and placed fourth at the Myrtle Beach Nationals.
Off the field, Andrews was part of the National Honor Society in 2018 and 2019 and garnered High Honor Roll from 2017 to 2019.
The daughter of Kelly Andrews and Devlon Patterson, she has one sister, Maddie.

"Aaliyah is an athletic outfielder with a unique speed and power combo potential. She fits really well into our system and strengthens our current solid outfield corp. She will be a dynamic player for us and it will be exciting to coach her skill set and watch her grow as an athlete."
Brooke Benson
SS/2B | Fishers, Ind. | Fishers
Brooke Benson will come to Indiana from Fishers High School where she currently holds single-season records for runs scored, home runs, RBI, lowest strikeout percentage, slugging percentage (1.060) and batting average (.542). She led the team to its first regional title in school history in 2019. Benson was named the Player of the Year for Hamilton County in 2019. She is a two-time All-Conference and All-County selection while being named to the All-State team in 2019. Scout Softball named her the No. 1 shortstop in the nation two times, in 2018 and 2019. Playing for Indiana Magic Gold-Rudd, she helped the team to third place at the PGF Nationals. Benson also led her previous team, Shockwaves-Perry, to a national championship.
The daughter of David and Sarah Benson, she has one sister, Morgan. Her parents are graduates of Indiana University.

"Brooke is one of the truest utility players we have seen. We will look to play her up the middle and she gives us depth on the corner and outfield. She has great hands and footwork with smooth transfers and the ability to throw from different slots. Excited about what she can do with her quickness and pop offensively."
Grace Lorsung
C/3B | New Palestine, Ind. | Cathedral
A native of New Palestine, Ind., Lorsung led her team to a regional title in 2019 after posting a batting average of .616 her junior year. Lorsung was tabbed for the 2019 Johnny Bench Catching Award for the state of Indiana and was an IndyStar Softball Super Team member in 2019. IndyStar also named her as an honorable mention in 2018. She is a three-time member of the All-City and has been named the Team MVP three times during her high school career. During the 2018 and 2019 seasons, she picked up All-USA honors. Also playing for the Indiana Magic Gold-Rudd and was ranked 76th in 2017 and 83rd in 2019 by FloSoftball. As a team, she helped them to third place at the PGF National Huntington Beach, Calif. in 2017 and 2019.
The daughter of Matt and Shannon Lorsung, she and has one sister, Adie.
Her father played football at the University of Indianapolis while her sister played softball at IUPUI.

"Grace is a stud behind the plate with a tremendously strong arm. She has the athleticism to play third base as well and will be a force in the heart of the line-up. Her leadership qualities make her a natural as a field general and she will build a great rapport with our pitching staff."
Macy Montgomery
P | Decatur, Ind. | Bellmont
A right-handed pitcher from Decatur, Ind., Montgomery holds school records in strikeouts (655), shutouts (29), wins (48) and ERA (.44). She led the team to an undefeated regular season (20-0) before earning a conference and sectional championship in 2019. Montgomery is a three-time All-County and All-Conference selection. She has also been named to the 2017 and 2018 All-State Second Team, and 2019 All-State First Team. She also plays travel ball for Indiana Magic Gold-Rudd where they finished in third at PGF Nationals in 2019. At the same tournament she was named to the 16u All-Tournament Team and came in at No. 69 on FloSoftball's Hot 100 ranking.
A daughter of Chad and Candace Montgomery, and has a sister named Madelene and a brother named Meric.

"Macy flat out gets after it on the mound. She brings a tenacious attitude and exudes confidence from the circle, at the plate, and on the basepath. She can keep hitters off balance and gets hitters to swing and miss. Macy is a fiery player and will raise our level of competitiveness."
