TEAM
• Indiana improved to 7-2, 4-2 in the Big Ten and 4-1 at Memorial Stadium.
• IU clinched its first winning season since 2007 (7-6) and has won seven games for just the 13th time in program history. The Hoosiers own five eight-win (1993, 1988, 1987, 1979, 1905) and two nine-win (1967, 1945) campaigns.
• The 7-2 record is Indiana's best opening-game mark since 1993 (7-2) and tied for the fourth-best in program history (1987, 1993). The 1945 (8-0-1), 1967 (8-1) and 1905 (7-1-1) teams hold the Top-3 spots.
• IU's conference and home records are its best five-game starts since the 1993 team posted the same 4-2 and 4-1 marks.
• The Hoosiers have won four-straight league games for the first time since 1993 and the seventh time ever. The four-consecutive wins are tied for the second-most in school history, behind the 1967 team's five-straight victories.
• Indiana has two 30-plus point Big Ten wins this season – Rutgers (35-0) and Northwestern (34-3) – for the first time since 2001 – at Wisconsin (63-32) and Northwestern (56-21).
• Tonight marked the first November night kickoff in Memorial Stadium history.
• IU defeated Northwestern for the first time since a 21-19 victory in Bloomington on Oct. 25, 2008.
• The teams met for the first time since 2016 and the first time at Memorial Stadium since 2010.
• IU unveiled a statue of the late George Taliaferro in George Taliaferro Plaza on Friday and wore his number 44 on the left side of the players helmets.
• Taliaferro's daughters Renee Buckner, Terri Johnson and Donna Taliaferro served as honorary game captains.
• Senior left tackle Coy Cronk (injured), fifth-year senior linebacker Reakwon Jones, fifth-year senior right guard Simon Stepaniak and fifth-year wide receiver Nick Westbrook served as game captains. The four are the team's season captains.
• Northwestern won the coin toss and elected to defer. Indiana improved to 5-1 when receiving the ball first.
OFFENSE
• Indiana reached 30 points for the eighth time in its first nine games, a program record, and for the sixth time in as many games, tied for the longest streak in school history (last 4 of 2015 and first 2 of 2016).
• The eight 30-point games are tied for the second-most in an IU single season (1988, 2007, 2013). The 2015 offense produced nine 30-point contests.
• IU scored (FG) on its opening offensive possession for the fourth-straight game and the sixth time (3 TDs) in nine games (30 points).
• The Hoosiers first scoring drive covered 11 plays and 5:21. Indiana has 14 double-digit scoring drives and seven drives resulting in points of over 5:00 this year.
• Sophomore running back Stevie Scott III reached the end zone twice on the ground, which gives him nine in 2019 and 19 in his career (9th in program history). Scott has three multi-TD rushing games this year and five in his career. He has registered a rushing score in 11 of the last 14 games and has totaled 16 touchdowns (15 rushing, 1 receiving) in those 14 games.
• The Syracuse, N.Y., native added a 20-yard receiving TD in the third stanza, his second-career receiving score and first of the year, for his first-career three-touchdown game.
• Scott rushed 26 times for 116 yards and made one catch for 20 yards. He has three 100-yards games this year and nine in his career, which is tied for 10th in school history.
• Redshirt freshman Michael Penix Jr. went 10-of-15 for 162 yards with his second rushing TD of the season in just under two quarters of action.
• Redshirt junior quarterback Peyton Ramsey came in relief late in the second quarter and completed 7-of-10 passes for 108 yards and one score.
• The two quarterbacks combined to complete 17-of-25 passes (68.0 percent) for 270 yards and one touchdown. IU has thrown for 270-plus yards in 7-of-9 games, including a stretch of five-straight contests. Indiana is 6-1 in those seven games.
• Fifth-year senior Nick Westbrook became the ninth Hoosier to reach 2,000 receiving yards and the first since Shane Wynn (2011-14). Westbrook owns 128 receptions and 2,007 yards, which is 9th in IU history. He is one of seven Hoosiers with 125 receptions and 2,000 yards.
• Westbrook caught a game-high-sharing five passes for 59 yards in the game.
• Junior wide receiver Ty Fryfogle tallied four receptions for 49 yards, while junior wide receiver Whop Philyor added two catches for a team-high 76 yards.
• Scott recorded the 20th start of his career.
DEFENSE
• The Hoosiers yielded three total points in their last two Big Ten home victories, marking the second-lowest, two-game home Big Ten opponent scoring output in a single-season and lowest since IU blanked Minnesota (6-0) and Michigan State (6-0) on Nov. 1 and Nov. 8, 1958.
• Indiana has held four opponents: Eastern Illinois (52-0), Connecticut (38-3), Rutgers (35-0) and Northwestern (34-3), to three points or less this season, which marks the most since holding five opponents to three points or less in the 1945 season.
• IU recorded its first three-takeaway game of 2019 with three fumble recoveries. It marked the first time the Hoosiers have recovered three fumbles since its victory over Maryland on Nov. 10, 2018.
• Indiana has a takeaway in 25 of its last 27 games and has 11 takeaways this season with eight fumble recoveries and three interceptions. IU has three multi-takeaway games this year, all in the last three weeks.
• True freshman cornerback Tiawan Mullen forced the first fumble of his career and junior defensive end Michael Ziemba made the recovery, the first of his career, on Northwestern's opening drive. Ziemba tallied one tackle for loss to give him five for the season and six for his career.
• In the second quarter, sophomore linebacker Cam Jones forced a fumble, the third of his career, and Mullen collected his first recovery. Jones added his fourth tackle for loss of his career and his season.
• Redshirt sophomore defensive end Alfred Bryant closed out the first half with his first recovery of 2019 and the second of his career.
• IU has scored 45 points off of the 11 takeaways.
• Redshirt junior husky Marcelino Ball led the team with five total tackles (4 solo). The game marks his third-straight with at least five stops and fourth of the season. Ball added one pass breakup.
• Senior defensive end Allen Stallings IV tallied his fourth sack of the season and the ninth of his career in the third quarter.
• Redshirt junior defensive tackle Jerome Johnson secured three tackles and one TFL. He has recorded 12 career tackles for loss, with three coming this season.
SPECIAL TEAMS
• Indiana's career field goal percentage leader Logan Justus connected on both of his field goal attempts, his third multi-FG game of 2019 (8 career), to improve to 12-for-12 on the season. The McCordsville, Ind., native's 12-straight field goals are second in program history. Austin Starr made 15-consecutive kicks in 2007.
• Justus is now 27-of-30 on field goals (90.0 percent) and 66-of-68 on PATs (97.1 percent). His 27 career field goals and his 66 PATs are ninth on the program's career list.
• Fifth-year senior Haydon Whitehead punted five times and dropped four inside the 15-yard line (4, 8, 11, 11). Whitehead has landed 14 inside the 10-yard line and four inside the 5-yard line on the year.
