Hoosiers Earn Two Titles at MSU Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Brock Hudkins and Nick Willham highlighted a successful day for the Indiana wrestling team as they opened the season at the Michigan State Open on Saturday.
Hudkins, in his first season in Bloomington earned the championship at 125 lb. Hudkins wrestled No. 16 Drew Hildebrandt of Central Michigan in the final. Hudkins scored a takedown a minute into the first period and held on for a 3-2 decision.
William captured the title at 197 in the freshmen/sophomore division, in an 8-5 decision over Samuel Mitchell of Buffalo.
"Overall I'm very happy with the way the team competed," IU head coach Angel Escobdo said. "We showed a lot of grit. The field was very competitive and our guys embraced the challenge. We have a lot of great things to build off of and we look forward to a great week of training."
The Hoosiers had eight placers in the freshmen/sophomore division, including five in the top three. Nick South and Donnell Washington finished in second-place and Asa Garcia and Greg Hagan finished in third-place.
