- Indiana Basketball opened their 120th season on Tuesday night with a 98-65 victory over Western Illinois.
- The Hoosiers are now 4-0 against the Fighting Leathernecks with the last meeting coming in 2006 where took the win, 92-40, at home.
- Indiana is 99-21 all-time in season openers and has won 21 of its last 22 opening night games.
- Joey Brunk, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Armaan Franklin made their first career starts at Indiana on Tuesday night.
- A pair of freshmen received the starting nod, Trayce Jackson-Davis and Armaan Franklin. Last season, Romeo Langford and Rob Phinisee received starts as freshmen against Chicago State. In 2014, James Blackmon Jr. and Robert Johnson appeared in the starting lineup.
- Indiana's largest lead of the night was 37 with 2:12 remaining in the game. Al Durham's layup gave the Hoosiers 16-15 lead at the 9:51 mark in the first half as they never trailed again.
- The Hoosiers biggest run of night ended the first half as they went on 34-10 run to extend their lead to 45-25 at the halftime break.
- Indiana shot the ball 38-for-65 (58.5 percent) from the floor and 5-for-11 (45.5 percent) from behind the arc, which is the best 3-point percentage since Feb. 2, 2019 at Michigan State. The Hoosier defense only allowed Western Illinois to shoot 22-for-64 (34.4 percent) from the field.
- The Hoosiers shot 21 of their 25 free throws in the second half and only put Western Illinois on the line for 15 attempts.
- The Indiana bench contributed 29 of the Hoosiers 98 points.
- Four Hoosiers scored in double figures, Justin Smith (24), Al Durham (21), Rob Phinisee (14), Joey Brunk (11).
- Junior forward Justin Smith led the team in scoring and matched his career high of 24 points (March 2, 2019 vs. Michigan State), shooting 11-for-17 from the field. He also added seven rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
- Junior guard Al Durham tallied 21 points, shooting 7-for-7 from the field. He is the 10th Hoosier to accomplish this feat since De'Ron Davis went 7-for-7 at Iowa on Mar. 9, 2017.
- Sophomore guard Rob Phinisee scored 14 points, three assists, and two rebounds.
- Redshirt junior Joey Brunk added 11 points for his first in his career at Indiana. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
- Freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis saw his first career points as he ended the night with eight points and six rebounds.
- Redshirt freshman Jerome Hunter played his first career minutes while tallying his first seven points of his career and three rebounds.
- Freshman guard Armaan Franklin scored his first five points as a Hoosier and while also securing a team-high eight assists.
- Senior forward De'Ron Davis grabbed two rebounds while notching two points.
- Sophomore forward Damezi Anderson secured two rebounds and tallied two points.
- Redshirt sophomore Race Thompson notched six rebounds with four points.
- Freshman forward Nathan Childress and junior guard Cooper Bybee saw action in the last two minutes of the game for their first minute of their careers.
- Senior Adrian Chapman, junior Jacquez Henderson, and freshman Michael Shipp all checked in in the final minute of the contest to tally their first career minutes.
- Up next, Indiana returns to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Portland State. Tipoff is slated for 2pm.
