Postgame Notes
- The Hoosiers improved to 10-1 (1-1 Big Ten) on the season Friday night with a 96-90 overtime victory over its Big Ten opponent, Nebraska, 96-90. The Hoosiers are 3-0 in its last three Big Ten home openers.
- The game marked the first overtime game of the year for Indiana.
- The 96 points scored by IU is the most against a Big Ten opponent since the 2016-17 season when the Hoosiers scored 110 against Penn State in triple overtime. Indiana also scored 96 twice that season against Illinois and Ohio State.
- Indiana outrebounded Nebraska 54-31 and its 54 rebounds marks the most in the Archie Miller era. The Hoosiers are 9-0 on the season when outrebounding its opponents.
- Junior forward Justin Smith and freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis both recorded double-doubles against the Cornhuskers. The last time the Hoosiers had two players finish with double-doubles in the same game was on the road at Northwestern on Jan. 22, 2019 (Juwan Morgan, 18-11 and Smith 10-12)
- Indiana opened the game on an 11-2 run capped off by an alley-oop dunk from Smith at the 16:57 mark in the first half that triggered a Nebraska timeout.
- The Hoosiers opened the overtime period by scoring the first six points and triggering a Nebraska timeout with 3:09 left on a sophomore guard Rob Phinisee 3-pointer. Phinisee had seven of his 16 points in overtime. Jackson-Davis also added five of his career-high 25 points in overtime.
- Smith's two free throws with seven seconds left iced the game.
- Indiana's largest lead of the night was nine on a Smith dunk with 16:57 remaining in the first half and again at the 16:18 mark on a redshirt junior forward Joey Brunk jumper.
- The Hoosier offense only committed 10 turnovers while the defense forced 21. IU scored 26 points off of those turnovers.
- Indiana came into the game leading the nation in free throws attempted (28.5) and free throws made (20.1) per game. Against Nebraska the Hoosiers made 27-of-38 (71.1 percent) from the free throw line.
- Four Hoosiers scored in double figures on Friday, Jackson-Davis (25), Phinisee (16), Smith (16) and junior guard Aljami Durham (14).
- Jackson-Davis had a career night for the Hoosiers registering career highs in points with 25 and rebounds with 15. This was his fifth double-double of the year. He also had a game-high three blocks.
- Phinisee had a season-high scoring night with 16 points and he also added a team-high four assists in 26 minutes.
- Smith had the second Hoosier double-double of the night with 16 points and 10 rebounds. He also added two assists and a block.
- Durham tallied 14 points for the Hoosiers and added three rebounds and three assists. This is his eighth double-figure game of the season
- Redshirt junior forward Joey Brunk scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 17 minutes.
- Senior guard Devonte Green scored five points for Indiana in 15 minutes and added an
assist and a steal.
- Sophomore forward Damezi Anderson scored five points in 16 minutes for the Hoosiers and went 5-of-6 from the free throw line. He also grabbed six rebounds.
- Redshirt freshman forward Jerome Hunter scored two points in four minutes and added three rebounds.
- Senior forward De'Ron Davis scored two points and recorded a steal.
- Redshirt freshman forward Jerome Hunter scored two points in four minutes and added three rebounds.
- Freshman guard Armaan Franklin played 17 minutes and dished out two assists while getting a blocked shot.
- The Hoosiers will next play next in the ninth annual Crossroads Classic against Notre Dame at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at Noon on Saturday, December 21.
