Indiana Welcomes Eighteen During Early Signing Period
12/18/2019 12:06:00 PM | Football
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana head football coach Tom Allen announced on Wednesday the signing of 18 student-athletes to play for the Hoosiers in 2020. Today opened college football's early signing period, which will run through Friday, Dec. 20.
"We really like the length and athleticism in this class," Allen said. "Our main priority was to add more length and bring in guys that we can develop. We are a young football team, so this was going to be a small class.
"Another priority was to add to our offensive line, and we did that by adding six linemen. It was important to bring in graduate transfer Dylan Powell, and Luke Haggard from the junior college ranks, to balance out our numbers."
IU signed 11 offensive players, six defensive players and one athlete. Indiana added six offensive linemen, two wide receivers, one quarterback, one running back and one tight end on offense, and three defensive backs, two defensive linemen and one linebacker on defense.
Players signed from nine different states, including six from Indiana, two each from Georgia, Michigan, Missouri and Virginia, and one each from California, Mississippi, Ohio and Texas.
Offensive lineman Dylan Powell has joined the Hoosiers as a transfer from Stanford University. Powell earned his degree from Stanford in December 2019, and he has one year of eligibility remaining.
Offensive lineman Luke Haggard comes to Bloomington from Santa Rose (Calif.) Junior College. Haggard will be a third-year junior in 2020 and have two years of eligibility remaining.
