"First of all, I just want to thank our Hoosier Nation fans for showing up today in Assembly Hall. What a great Sunday afternoon crowd. No one feels as badly as we do. I speak for all of the women's basketball staff and players. We just couldn't get over the hump today for so many reasons. Some of that had to do with UCLA other parts were due to the fact that we had some nice looks. Our guard play was not very good, below average. Obviously, we struggled from the free throw line. We are disappointed, but UCLA is a fantastic team. Cori does a great job and we knew that they would be overly aggressive today. I just thought we didn't handle ourselves in the first half the way we needed to. Although we bounced back in the second half and made it a game. Like I said, we just couldn't get over the hump to where we could tie it. It seemed like when we would start to make a run, they made a timely shot that just kept us at bay. Disappointed for our kids, I know they are disappointed. We will have to take a few days here to enjoy our families and then come back and get ready for a really good Michigan State team."

- In the second, consecutive 3-pointers by junior guard Jaelynn Penn put the Hoosiers on a 6-0 run cut the deficit to 18-10 triggering a UCLA timeout at the 7:26 mark.
- As part of another 5-0 run, Indiana managed to cut the deficit to four, 21-17, at the 1:12 mark in the second quarter on a Holmes layup. Indiana trailed at the half, 25-19.
- After falling into a 30-19 deficit early in the third quarter, the Hoosiers came within two, 39-37, with 1:05 remaining in the third on two junior guard Bendu Yeaney free throws and faced a five-point deficit, 43-38.
- In the fourth, IU came within one with a basket from Holmes on the low block with 7:49 remaining in the game. This was the closest the Hoosiers had been since the 4:48 mark of the first quarter. They would keep it close at the last media timeout of the game as Berger's transition layup made it 53-50 with just over five minutes to play. A layup from Yeaney kept IU within three but timely shots propelled the No. 10 Bruins who pushed the lead back up to eight with 1:29 remaining.
