BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After a two-week road stretch that saw Indiana go 4-1 and knock off two top-25 teams, IU
returned home to Assembly Hall for the first time since November 17th.
IU welcomed North Florida to Bloomington Saturday evening for a 72-45 victory to improve to
8-1 on the season.
It was a slow-moving offensive night for IU but senior forward Brenna Wise poured in a
season-high 22 points over the course of 36 minutes on Saturday night. Her performance
helped carry IU on a night where at times it couldn't get things moving.
"It was big," IU head coach Teri Moren said. "She took it upon herself to make some aggressive
plays at the rim. She was probably the bright spot of the night for us. You expect your seniors to
step up. She didn't press too much and allowed the game to come to her."
IU put on a near offensive clinic during its trip to the U.S. Virgin Islands but has struggled over
the past two games without sophomore guard and leading scorer Grace Berger.
Even on the nights where the shots aren't falling, IU is sure of its abilities to get the ball in the
basket, no matter what.
"We have great confidence going into every game," Wise said. "Our coaching staff always
prepares us to the best. Everyday we're getting into the gym and putting in work so it's just
tapping into that resource and relying on that."
IU got off to a strong start Saturday night against North Florida. It led 17-6 after the first quarter
and 28-19 going to the break.
Still, Moren believed her squad had more to offer in the second half. She talked about energy
with her team during halftime and bringing more effort on both the offensive and defensive ends.
In the second half, IU outscored North Florida by 18.
"North Florida is a great team and we needed to sit back and do a better job defending," Wise
said. "We definitely could've done a better job rebounding. We came into the locker room and
identified things we need to fix and I think we did a great job of that in the second half."
For IU, it was a welcomed sight to see Assembly Hall after playing five straight games away
from home.
3,754 fans welcomed IU back to Bloomington on Saturday night and gave Wise a standing
ovation as she exited the floor.
"It was very important to come and protect our house after a very long trip," Penn said.
Moren will be the first to say it wasn't the cleanest performance for IU on Saturday night. But
it still came away with a 27-point victory for its eighth win of the season.
IU got one of its best performances of the season from Wise tonight as her maturity and
effectiveness carried IU to its third straight win.
"She's unique in so many ways on and off the floor," Moren said. "She has a love for life and I
don't know that she ever has a bad day. You can count on her every single day to come in and
be the same. We talk about having good juice every day and she just has an energy that's
contagious and resonates with the players inside the locker room."
