Gordon, Gorski, Lloyd Tabbed as B1G Players to Watch; Hoosiers Picked to Finish Fourth

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Junior Tanner Gordon, junior Matt Gorski and senior Matt Lloyd were selected as Big Ten Players to Watch, the league office announced on Wednesday. Additionally, the Big Ten coaches picked Indiana to finish fourth in the league.
A first team All-Big Ten selection and an ABCA First Team All-Mideast Region honoree in 2018, Gorski started 58 games in left field and led the Hoosiers in batting average (.356), hits (79) and total bases (123). He recorded 14 doubles, three triples, and eight home runs on the year while tallying a team-high 27 multi-hit games, including two four-hit efforts.
Gorski finished fourth in the Big Ten in stolen bases (24, t-45th nationally), tied for fourth in hits (79), fifth in total bases (123), tied for fifth in triples (3), seventh in batting average (.356), 11th in slugging percentage (.554), tied for 12th in doubles (14).
Lloyd was a Second Team All-American selection by Collegiate Baseball and Third Team All-American selection by the NCBWA last season, in addition to being an All-Big Ten First Team selection.
He appeared and started in 59 games for the Hoosiers in 2018, including games played at first base, second base, designated hitter, and made 15 appearances as a relief pitcher out of the bullpen. At the plate, he finished with a .275 average, nine home runs, and 41 RBI. On the mound, Lloyd threw 23.1 innings, striking out 22 batters and only allowing four earned runs, ending the season with a 4-2 record, seven saves, and a 1.54 ERA.
Gordon is in his first season with the Hoosiers after completing a two-year stint at John A. Logan College. He posted a 6-0 record his freshman year, striking out 52 batters in 49.2 IP and owned a 2.06 ERA his sophomore year, striking out 104 batters in 70.0 IP, only allowing 16 earned runs.
Indiana opens the 2019 season at Memphis this weekend with Friday's opener scheduled for a 5 p.m. ET start.
