Hoosiers Battle No. 49 Princeton to 5-2 Defeat

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis won four first sets in singles, but could not convert all into wins as they fell at home, 5-2 to No. 49 Princeton on Saturday at the IU Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Hoosiers (6-5) dropped the No. 2 doubles match to Princeton (7-3) but came back to win at No. 3 doubles, 7-5. At No. 3 and No. 1 Indiana came back from being down 4-2 to leading 5-4. The Hoosiers couldn't close out the match at No. 1 as Princeton won it, 7-5 to win the doubles points.
Princeton got out to a 3-0 lead with singles wins at No. 6 and No. 4, but Indiana has momentum of their own building as they won first sets in each of the other four matches.
Madison Appel put Indiana on the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Appel improves to 13-5 on the season in singles.
Michelle McKamey got Indiana to within 3-2 with a straight set win that included a second set tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1).
At No. 2 singles Natalie Whalen came back from down 40-15 to win a game in the third set, but ultimately fell in the match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
Up next the Hoosiers close the weekend with a home match against DePaul tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
