Indiana Hosts Cincinnati, Butler this Week

• Indiana opens its 2019 home slate this week with a pair of midweek games against Cincinnati (Tuesday, 3 p.m.) and Butler (Wednesday, 3 p.m.).
• Tuesday will be the 30th ever meeting between IU and Cincinnati, as the two squads last met on March 6, 2018, an 8-3 victory for the Bearcats.
• Indiana leads the all-time series between the two schools, 18-11.
• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer enters his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted a 79-52 career record after leading Wright State to winning seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
• Cincinnati head coach Scott Googins enters his second season at the helm of the Bearcat baseball program. He guided UC to its best finish since 2011 as the Bearcats finished at 28-28 overall and an even 12-12 in American Athletic Conference play.
• After taking two of three games from the Memphi Tigers, the Hoosiers are coming off a tough series loss to the Tennessee Volunteers this past weekend.
• IU is heading into its seventh season playing at Bart Kaufman Field. The Hoosiers hold a 112-37-1 all-time record in their home confines.
• The Hoosier pitching staff is in the top five in the Big Ten in a number of statistical categories including shutouts (T-4th, T-20th nationally), ERA (5th), hits allowed per nine innings (7.92) and WHIP (1.38).
• Senior starting pitcher Pauly Milto has 16 strikeouts (3rd in Big Ten) through his first two starts and has not walked a batter in 13 innings to begin the year.
• Indiana's six home runs in six games this year is tied for second in the Big Ten, with sophomore Cole Barr leading the way with two long balls (T-3rd in the Big Ten).
• Senior Matt Lloyd, sophomore Tanner Gordon and junior Matt Gorski were named Indiana's three Players to Watch by the Big Ten and the Hoosiers were picked to finish fourth in the league by the conference coaches.
• Gorski picked up a handful of preseason honors, including preseason All-American laurels from the NCBWA, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game.
• Lloyd additionally joined Gorski in earning preseason All-American honrors, picking up nod from Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball.
• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (386) and conference wins (161). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.
• For the fifth time in six years, Indiana was selected to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament field. The No. 2-seeded Hoosiers played in the Austin Regional and reached the Regional final, eventually falling to Texas, 3-2.
