Indiana Opens Home Slate with 7-1 Victory over Cincinnati

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (3-4) got back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-1 victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats.
The Hoosiers' bullpen was strong in relief of freshman starter Alex Franklin, who allowed one earned run in two innings with four strikeouts. Indiana relievers junior Cal Krueger, junior Cam Beauchamp and sophomore Grant Sloan combined for seven innings of three-hit ball and no runs.
Junior Matt Gorski and sophomore Cole Barr each homered in the win, while senior Ryan Fineman also added a two-run double.
KEY MOMENTS
• Gorski led off the bottom of the first with a home run to left to give IU the early 1-0 lead.
• In the top of the second, a one-out RBI single by Cincinnati's Cole Murphy tied the game up at one.
• With seniors Cade Bunnell (walk) on third and Matt Lloyd (single) on first, Fineman found the gap with a two-run double in the bottom of the third to put the Hoosiers ahead, 3-1.
• Barr followed Fineman's double with a two-run home run to left field.
• The Hoosiers plated two more runs in the bottom of the eighth on an error and a groundout to increase the lead to 7-1.
NOTES
• Gorski's home run in the bottom of the first was his second this season, both leading off in the first, and he now has 14 in his career.
• Barr's third inning long ball was his third this season. Barr entered this week tied for third in the Big Ten in home runs.
• Krueger, who earned the win, tossed three innings of one-hit ball with three strikeouts and a walk.
• Beauchamp made his first appearance on the mound this season, allowing no runs and two hits over three innings with a strikeout.
• Sloan threw a scoreless ninth inning with three strikeouts.
• Indiana's four-run third inning tied for its season-high for runs in an inning. The Hoosiers also scored four on Feb. 16 at Memphis.
