- The Hoosiers got out to a slow start, falling behind as many as 10 in the first quarter as it faced a 17-10 deficit heading into the second.
- With back-to-back 3-pointers from sophomore guard Jaelynn Penn and redshirt junior guard Ali Patberg, the Hoosiers came within three, 22-19. Northwestern would go back up five but a pair at the line from Penn and her 3-pointer tied the game up at 24-all with 3:36 on the clock.
- The Wildcats would use a 6-0 run over the next minute and 20 seconds stretched the lead back out but IU got an offensive putback from senior forward Kym Royster and a layup as the clock expired on the half from Patberg to cut it to two at the break, 30-28.
- But IU struggled out of the break as Northwestern would win the quarter in the third, 22-8. Indiana went over five and a half minutes without a bucket as Royster finally got the Hoosiers on the board with 4:21 remaining.
