Indiana Opens CCU Tournament with Northeastern

• Indiana heads to Conway, S.C. to take part in the Coastal Carolina Baseball Tournament, first taking on the Northeastern Huskies on Friday at 2 p.m.
• With this being the second overall meeting between the two programs, Northeastern holds the 1-0 series edge as the Huskies came out on the winning side back on March 18, 2003,
defeating the Hoosiers by a score of 3-2.
• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer enters his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted a 81-52 career record after leading Wright State to winning seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
• Northeastern head coach Mike Glavine, the two-time CAA Coach of the Year (2017, 2018) and 2018 NEIBA (New England) Coach of the Year – is in his ffith season as head coach of the Northeastern baseball team and the 13th season overall with the program.
• The Hoosier pitching staff entered this week in the top five in the Big Ten in a number of statistical categories including shutouts (T-4th, T-20th nationally), ERA (5th), hits allowed per nine innings (7.92) and WHIP (1.38).
• Senior starting pitcher Pauly Milto has 16 strikeouts (3rd in Big Ten) through his first two starts and has not walked a batter in 13 innings to begin the year.
• Over the last three games, Indiana's bullpen has surrendered just nine hits and one earned run in 15.2 innings.
• Junior Matt Gorski is tied for the team lead in home runs with three, as they have all come in consecutive games.
• Also joining Gorski for the team lead is sophomore Cole Barr. The Hoosiers have hit 10 home runs this season and entered the week tied for third in the Big Ten.
• With his three RBIs today against Butler on Wednesday, senior Ryan Fineman has now driven in all six of his runs this season in the last three games.
• Senior Matt Lloyd, sophomore Tanner Gordon and Gorski were named Indiana's three Players to Watch by the Big Ten and the Hoosiers were picked to finish fourth in the league by the conference coaches.
• Gorski picked up a handful of preseason honors, including preseason All-American laurels from the NCBWA, D1 Baseball and Perfect Game.
• Lloyd additionally joined Gorski in earning preseason All-American honrors, picking up nod from Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball.
• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (388) and conference wins (161). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.
• For the fifth time in six years, Indiana was selected to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament field. The No. 2-seeded Hoosiers played in the Austin Regional and reached the Regional final, eventually falling to Texas, 3-2.
