
No. 17 IU Falls to Furman, 5-1

CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 17 Indiana dropped the final game of the USF-Clearwater Parks and Recreation Tournament to Furman on Sunday morning, 5-1. The loss ended a five-game winning streak for the Hoosiers and moves their record to 21-3.
KEY MOMENTS
• The game was tied 1-1 entering the seventh inning before the Paladins put up four runs in the final frame to earn the win.
• Furman scored in the second as Mackense Greico singled to right to plate Savannah Hughes, who doubled down the left field line to get on base.
• Indiana responded in the third to the game at 1-1. After sophomore Taylor Lambert was hit by a pitch, she stole second to get in to scoring position before junior Gabbi Jenkins singled on a bunt. Greico overthrew the ball to first, allowing time for Lambert to score.
• The Hoosiers looked to take the lead in the fourth after junior Bella Norton doubled with one out. Pinch runner Paige Chitwood advanced to third on a groundout but was left stranded.
• Furman broke through in the seventh after an RBI double by Cammy Pereira made it 2-1. An RBI single by Marissa Guimbarda made it 3-1 before the final two runs came across on a homer by Casey Bigham.

• Junior Emily Goodin got the start for the Hoosiers and re-entered the game in the seventh. She struck out 11, tying her career high.
• Freshman Natalie Foor took the loss for Indiana.
• Greico tossed a complete game for Furman, allowing just four hits and striking out three.
• With a double in the first, junior Katie Lacefield extended her hitting streak to nine games. Lacefield led the Indiana bats this weekend as she hit .500 with six hits, two doubles and five RBI.

"We were in a tight ball game through six innings and didn't get the job done offensively. We expect to be more competitive in those situations, especially given the season we're having. We didn't get the job done."

Indiana travels to Fort Myers to face off against Florida Gulf Coast in a doubleheader this Tuesday. It will mark the end of 26-straight games on the road before IU opens home play next weekend in the Hoosier Classic.
