Baseball Opens Four-Game Series with Canisius at 4 p.m. on Friday

• Indiana baseball begins a stretch of eight of its next nine games at home with a four-game series against the Canisius Golden Griffins this weekend, which includes a 4 p.m. start on Friday, a noon doubleheader on Saturday, and a noon start on Sunday.
• Firiday will be the second ever meeting between IU and Canisus, as the two squads last met on March 22, 1992, a 15-4 victory for the Hoosiers.
• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer is in his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted an 84-56 career record after leading Wright State to winning seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
• Canisius head coach Matt Mazurek is in his second season at the helm of the Golden Griffin baseball program. In his first season in 2018, Mazurek led Canisius to the 2018 MAAC Championship, advancing to the NCAA Regional hosted by Minnesota.
• The Hoosiers pitching staff began this week second in the Big Ten in ERA (3.14, 36th nationally), tied for second in shutouts (2, T-16th nationally), and is third in hits allowed per nine innings (7.11, 34th) and WHIP (1.28).
• Indiana's offense entered this week first in the Big Ten with 17 home runs (T-17th nationally).
• Senior starting pitcher Pauly Milto was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the 1-0 victory over Washington. It was his second career weekly honor, as he threw a no-hitter for the first 7.2 innings, finishing with eight innings allowing just one hit.
• The Greenwood, Ind.-native entering this week was tied for second in the Big Ten in wins (3, T-23rd nationally), is second in strkieouts (29) and is third in WHIP (0.69).
• Junior outfielder Matt Gorski came into the week tied for second in the Big Ten in home runs (4), is tied for third in RBI (12), fourth in slugging percentage (.689) and is tied for fifth in stolen bases (5). This includes missing the entire Tennessee series with an injury.
• He currently holds a nine-game htting streak entering Wednesday's game.
• Sophomore third baseman Cole Barr paces the Hoosiers and the Big Ten with five home runs (T-23rd nationally heading into the week) and was second in the league with a .689 slugging percentage.
• The sophomore has reached base in his last 12 games, which includes a seven-game hit streak after doubling at Cincinnati on Wednesday.
• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (391) and conference wins (161). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.
• For the fifth time in six years, Indiana was selected to the 2018 NCAA Baseball Tournament field. The No. 2-seeded Hoosiers played in the Austin Regional and reached the Regional final, eventually falling to Texas, 3-2.
• Gorski, Lloyd and, sophomore Tanner Gordon were named Indiana's Preseason Players to Watch by the Big Ten and the Hoosiers were picked to finish fourth in the league by the conference coaches.
