BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer's Jack Maher has been invited to the U-23 Men's National Soccer Team training camp in Spain. Maher is the only collegiate player that earned an invite to the camp, joining 22 professional players.
The U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team will play its first matches of the 2020 U-23 cycle with a pair of friendlies in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain. The USA will face Egypt on Friday, March 22 and the Netherlands on Sunday, March 24. Both matches are set to kick off at 12 p.m. ET at the Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar.
Maher had a standout rookie season with the Hoosiers in 2018, earning Freshmen First-Team All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. The Caseyville, Ill. native was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
On the season, Maher was one of only three players to start all 24 matches for the Hoosiers last season, helping Indiana make the College Cup for the second-straight season and finish with a record of 20-3-1.
Playing center back for IU, Maher helped the Hoosiers post a NCAA-best 15 shutouts in 2018 and allow just 13 goals all year.
Along with Maher, two former Hoosiers – Trey Muse and Justin Rennicks – were named to the 20-player roster for the USMNT U-20's final training camp before this summer's FIFA U-20 World Cup. The USA will face two fellow World Cup participants, beginning with France on Friday, March 22 (10 a.m. ET) and Japan on Monday, March 25 (7 a.m. ET). Both matches will be played at Pinatar Arena in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain.
Muse (Seattle Sounders FC) and Rennicks (New England Revolution) both signed Homegrown Contracts with their respective teams after their sophomore seasons at IU in 2018.
