Indiana Opens up Big Ten Play with Iowa

• Indiana baseball opens up Big Ten action this weekend as it hosts the Iowa Hawkeyes for a three-game set at Bart Kaufman Field.
• Friday will be the 152nd ever meeting between IU and Iowa, as the two squads split a two-game set in Iowa City last season.
• Iowa leads the all-time series between the two schools, 77-73
• Indiana Head Coach Jeff Mercer is in his first season with the Hoosiers and his 10th overall year in coaching collegiately. He has posted an 89-56 career record after leading Wright State to winning
seasons in each of his two years with the Raiders, including a 2018 Horizon League title and NCAA Regional appearance.
• Iowa head coach Rick Heller is in his sixth season at the helm of the Hawkeyes baseball program. Entering this season, he has led the Hawkeyes to the best five-year stretch in program history, winning 185 games and advancing to two NCAA Regionals.
• In a game that was tied or the lead changed eight times, 10 total home runs were hit, and there were 15 extra-base hits, IU picked up its fifth-straight win with a 15-14 victory at Indiana State on Tuesday evening.
• Having scored 66 runs over the last five games, the Hoosiers lead the Big Ten in runs (133), home runs (31, T-6th nationally) and slugging percentage (.456), are third in doubles (36) and fifth in hits (169).
• IU's pitching staff enters the weekend second in the Big Ten in walks allowed per nine innings (3.74), third in ERA (3.74) and WHIP (1.28, 44th nationally) and fourth in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
• For the first time in his career, senior catcher Ryan Fineman was named Big Ten Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend against Canisius.
• The Westlake Village, Calif.-native tallied nine RBI on nine hits and scored 10 runs while batting .600 on the week. He hit a trio of home runs and two doubles as he registered a .667 on-base percentage and 1.333 slugging percentage.
• Fineman went 3-for-5 with the home run, two RBI and three runs scored at Indiana State on Tuesday. In his last five games, he is 12-for-20 (.600) with four home runs, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored.
• Junior starting pitcher Andrew Saalfrank struck out 14 hitters on Sunday in his start and win over Canisius. It marked the most for an Indiana pitcher since Zach McClellan had 14 against Vermont on March 18, 2000
• Freshman outfielder Grant Richardson made the first six appearances and starts of his career this past week. In the first six starts (and games) of his career, the Fishers, Ind.-native is 9-for-24 (.375) with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI.
• Sophomore third baseman Cole Barr paces the Big Ten with seven home runs (T-16th nationally).
• Senior utility player Matt Lloyd enters Friday with a 14-game reached base streak.
• Since the start of the 2008 season, Indiana leads the Big Ten in wins (396) and conference wins (161). The Hoosiers have made six NCAA Regionals over that span, the most out of any current Big Ten team.
