BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Behind another strong start from junior Tanner Gordon and a 13-hit performance, Indiana baseball (14-8, 2-0 Big Ten) earned a 13-1 victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday afternoon to clinch the series.
KEY MOMENTS
• Senior Ryan Fineman led off the bottom of the second with a double and eventually scored on an RBI single by freshman Grant Richardson. The Hoosiers later executed a double steal by Richardson and sophomore Elijah Dunham, as Dunham scored to make it a 2-0 game.
• With the bases loaded in the bottom of the third, Dunham plated two runs with a two-run single to put Indiana up by four runs.
• After Richardson led off the bottom of the fourth with a single, junior Matt Gorski hit a two-run home run off the scoreboard to give the Hoosiers a 6-0 edge.
• The bases went loaded again in the bottom of the fifth. Richardson cleared the bags with a three-run double. After a single by sophomore Jeremy Houston to put runners on the corners, senior Matt Lloyd hit a sacrifice fly to plate Houston.
• The Hoosiers took a 10-0 lead into the sixth inning, where they added three more runs. A single by senior Logan Kaletha and a walk to Richardson set up a two-run triple for Houston. The junior then scored on an RBI single up the middle by Gorski to give IU a 13-0 lead.
• Iowa got on the board in the top of the seventh with a Ben Norman solo home run.
NOTES
• Gordon fanned a career-high 12 batters, besting last's weeks 10-strikeout effort against Canisius. In his last two starts, the junior righty has struck out 22 batters, while allowing just seven hits and two earned runs in 15 innings.
• Richardson drove in four runs for the second time in his young career, the last time coming against Indiana State on Tuesday. The freshman went 3-for-4 with a double and stolen base.
• Lloyd upped his team-high reached base streak to 16 games with his RBI double, while sophomore Drew Ashley continued his eight-game hit streak with a single.
