BLOOMINGTON, Ind.– Indiana volleyball assistant coach Krista Vansant has been selected for the coaching staff on Team USA's Collegiate National Team – Japan Tour, announced by USA Volleyball.
Vansant, a two-time Honda Award winner and 2013 National Player of the Year, is in her second year with Indiana volleyball.
Vansant, a 2014 graduate of the University of Washington helped the U.S. win gold at the Pan American Games and she was named an alternate for the 2016 Rio Olympic Team. She played professionally from the fall of 2015 through spring of 2016 with Volero Zurich in Switzerland.
"Our entire program is excited for Krista to make this trip, work with a great group and represent the United States," IU head coach Steve Aird said. "She is doing a tremendous job for our program and will gain valuable experience on this tour. I know her contributions will be valuable as she has so much to offer."
"I am beyond excited for the opportunity to not only represent USA Volleyball in Japan but to represent Indiana Volleyball as well," Vansant said. "I am so grateful for everything that I have learned so far here at IU and I am looking forward to learning from some of the best coaches in the game. As a player, I felt that the international exposure and training was invaluable and I am eager to experience the international game from the coaching side."
"I played internationally and have worn the USA jersey, so I feel that it is a unique opportunity to share what I learned while playing overseas," Vansant added. "I also want to thank Coach Aird and the administration for allowing me to pursue this opportunity with USA Volleyball – he is always pushing me to continue to learn and grow. I am really looking forward to what I will be able to bring back to the Indiana Volleyball Program."
The squad will tour May 19-30 in Japan where it will have a series of training sessions and matches.
