Grimmer Sets New Personal Record to Highlight Day One of Pepsi Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla.— Indiana Track & Field kicked off day one of the Pepsi Florida Relays on Thursday afternoon by seeing competition in three events.
Derek Grimmer set a new PR in the 200m with a time of 21.54. The senior picked up second in his section and 53rd overall. On the women's side of the 200m open, Megan Grabowski raced to a 39th place finish with a time of 24.44.
The Hoosiers had one lone runner in the men's open 400m. Adam Wallace clocked a time of 50.13.
Back in her home state, Jeyland Valentin competed in the women's 400m hurdles on Thursday afternoon. The Oakland Park, Fla. native crossed the finish line in a time of 1:02.65 to place 11th. In the men's field, Shaton Vaughn competed in his first collegiate 400m hurdles as he placed 17th overall with a time of 54.89.
In the day one finale, Jackson Jett ran his first collegiate 5000m. In a competitive field, the freshman connected with the finish line in a time of 14:37.07.
The Hoosiers will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 29 at 12:00 p.m. ET. Princess Brinkley will initiate competition for Indiana as she competes in the weight throw. The first event on the track will be when Rikkoi Brathwaite races in the 100m at 1:05 p.m. ET.
