IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Indiana women's tennis team couldn't complete the 2-0 road weekend as they came up short in a 4-3 defeat against Iowa on Sunday.
In doubles, the Hoosiers (13-8, 3-3) and Hawkeyes (10-8, 2-4) split the first two matches, but Indiana secured the doubles point with a 7-5 win from Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic at No. 1 doubles. Appel and Bozovic came back from down 3-1 and 4-3 in the match to prevail 7-5.
Iowa struck first in singles with a win at No. 3 singles to even the match, 1-1. The Hawkeyes added wins at No. 1 and No. 6 singles to take a 3-1 lead in the match.
Jelly Bozovic won a straight set, 7-5, 6-4 match and Natalie Whalen came back from dropping her first set to win her next two, to even the overall match 3-3.
The match came down to No. 5 singles in a third set and Iowa won it 6-3 in the final set to clinch the match.
In their last five matches the Hoosiers have won three and lost two in 4-3 decisions.
Up next the Hoosiers continue their road swing with a match at Purdue on Saturday April 6 at 12:00 p.m.
