Hoosiers Qualify Three for the Finals at Day One of NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.— Indiana Track & Field competed at day one of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships that saw four All-American First Team honors and three individuals advance to finals in their respective events. Khayla Dawson, Ben Veatch, and both the men's and women's DMR teams earned All-America First Team honors while Kyle Mau, Cooper Williams and Kelsey Harris advanced to the finals in their respective events.
Khayla Dawson saw her first podium finish of her career in the shot put after throwing a distance of 17.19m (56' 4.75") to place sixth overall.
Ben Veatch remained strong in the 5000m leaving it all on the track while fighting his way to a seventh-place finish with a time of 13:49.50 in the finals of the event.
Both the men's and women's DMR squads saw the podium on Friday night. On the men's side, milliseconds separated third through sixth as the Hoosiers raced to a fourth-place finish after crossing the finish line in a time of 9:33.11. In the women's race, Indiana clocked a time of 11:13.66 to finish eighth overall.
Running alongside some of the top milers in the country, redshirt junior Kyle Mau proved to be among the nation's best as he grabbed the fourth fastest qualifying time to advance to tomorrow's finals of the men's mile with a time of 4:07.15.
Both Kelsey Harris and Cooper Williams will see the finals of the 800m as they both nabbed qualifying spots. Harris snagged the sixth qualifying spot with a time of 2:06.15 while Williams took the second qualifying position with a time of 1:48.42.
Adam Coulon competed in the pole vault for the Hoosiers as he cleared a height of 5.33m (17" 5.75").
The Hoosiers will be back in action tomorrow to conclude the NCAA Indoor Championships slate.
