Indiana Falls to No. 1 Oregon State, 8-3

SEATTLE, Wash. – Despite taking an early 2-0 lead on a two-run home run from junior Matt Lloyd, Indiana baseball (7-6) took an 8-3 loss to the No. 1 Oregon State Beavers on Saturday afternoon at Safeco Field.
KEY MOMENTS
• In the top of the first, sophomore Drew Ashley worked a one-out walk that would set things up for Lloyd, who drilled a two-run shot to right center to give the Hoosiers an early 2-0 edge.
• A key play for IU early in the contest came in the bottom of the first. With runners on second and third with two away, junior Matt Gorski made a superb over the shoulder catch in right field to put up a zero on the board for the Beavers.
• With Oregon State's Andy Armstrong at the plate in the bottom of the second, a dribbler to third that was ruled an error allowed a run to score to make it a 2-1 game in favor of IU.
• The Beavers took over the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Joe Casey hit a leadoff home run and Tyler Malone smacked a two-run double to make it a 4-2 game.
• A sac fly in the fifth and an RBI groundout in the sixth provided a pair of insurance runs for the Beavers to up the lead to 6-2.
• Sophomore Cole Barr led off the top of the seventh with a triple and junior Scotty Bradley followed with an RBI single up the middle to trim the Beaver lead to three runs.
• With two outs in the eighth inning, Indiana worked three-straight walks to load the bases, but a flyout to left ended the threat.
• OSU added an additional two insurance runs in the eighth to bring the lead up to 8-3.
NOTES
• Lloyd's first inning home run marked the first of the year for him and the 21st of his career at Indiana.
• Ashley has now reached base safely in 12-straight games.
• With a single in the top of the fifth inning, Gorski extended his hitting streak to eight games.
• Barr finished 2-for-3 with a double, triple and run scored and has now reached base in a career-high 10-straight games.
