Purcell and Lane Set Bar on First Day of Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— Hope Purcell and Nick Lane were in action on Thursday afternoon as they competed on day one of the Tennessee Relays for Indiana Track & Field.
Purcell competed in the first four events of the women's heptathlon and currently sits in the eighth place with 3,100 points. In the 100m hurdles, the freshman clocked a time of 14.79 and earned 870 points. Next, she came out strong in the high jump by clearing a height of 1.74m (5' 8.5"). During the shot put portion, she threw a distance of 10.06m (33' .25") to earn 533 points towards her total. In the final event of the day, Purcell crossed the finish line in a time of 26.04 for a new personal record. She will wrap up the heptathlon with the final three events tomorrow, Apr. 12 beginning at 3 p.m.
Lane set a new personal record in the men's hammer after throwing a distance of 58.19m (190' 11"). Overall, the freshman placed 12th.
Indiana returns to action tomorrow, Friday Apr. 12 beginning at 11 a.m. EST with the women's hammer. The men's 110-meter hurdles will be the first event on the track for the Hoosiers at 2:45 p.m. EST.
