MADISON, Wis. – Indiana Softball dropped a heartbreaker to Wisconsin in Saturday afternoon, falling in a marathon 13-inning contest, 4-3.
KEY MOMENTS
• Wisconsin got on the scoreboard first on a one-out two-run homer by Stephanie Lombardo in the third inning.
• IU sophomore Maddie Westmoreland immediately responded as she led off the fourth with a solo homer to left field.
• The Hoosiers jumped ahead in the sixth, taking advantage of a Wisconsin fielding error to plate a pair of runs. After sophomore Grayson Radcliffe was hit by a pitch and sophomore Maddie Westmoreland drew a walk to put two on, the Badgers appeared to be ready to get out of the inning on a flyout from sophomore Camryn Woodall. However, the Wisconsin centerfielder couldn't corral the ball as it dropped and plated Radcliffe and freshman pinch runner Juvia Davis.
• The Badgers tied up the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth as Jordan Little drew a bases-loaded walk off of reliever Tara Trainer. However, Trainer prevented further damage as she forced a groundout to keep them loaded.
• Following a leadoff bunt single by Lambert in the 10th, she was moved over to second on a sacrifice from Radcliffe. A wild pitch got her to third with one out, but a pair of strikeouts stopped her from coming in.
• Woodall knocked a one-out single to center in the 11th before IU put two on as a fielder's choice by Baez failed to get Woodall out at second. IU then attempted to break apart the tie as Woodall tried to come all the way home on a single from Jenkins, but she was thrown out at the plate.
• The Badgers loaded the bases in the home half of the 11th on a pair of walks and a single before a foul out to first baseman Annika Baez in foul territory left them loaded.
• Wisconsin again loaded the bags in the 13th on two walks and a single. After Woodall caught a liner for the first out, Lauren Foster ended the game as she sent an RBI single to left, scoring Ally Miklesh.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Westmoreland's homer in the fourth was the sixth of the season for the sophomore. In addition, her two hits extended her hitting streak to five games.
• Westmoreland, Lambert and Jenkins all recorded a pair of hits to lead the Indiana bats.
• Radcliffe pushed her reached base streak to 11 games on her hit-by-pitch in the sixth.
• The 13 innings is the longest game for Indiana since at least the 2005 season. The previous high was 12 on Feb. 20, 2016 against Holy Cross.
• The four hours and 20 minutes is the longest running time of a game this season. Indiana's Feb. 23 win against Mercer went three hours and 26 minutes in 11 innings.
• Indiana falls to 31-17 on the season with a 6-10 Big Ten record. Wisconsin improves to 32-8 with an 8-6 conference mark.
HEAD COACH SHONDA STANTON
"I am proud of our student-athletes, we battled for 13 innings. At the end of the day, it's about coming up with the clutch hit. We out-hit them, but it's about coming up with the timely hit and we weren't able to do that. It was nice to see Gabbi get back to form and get a couple hits. The 15 walks on the day really hurt us because all that does is turn their lineup over. We've got to be able to come out fresh tomorrow, shake this and fight to salvage the series.

Indiana and Wisconsin will wrap up the series on Sunday with first pitch slated for 2 p.m. ET on BTN Plus.
