Hoosiers Split Doubleheader with Spartans, Win Series

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Indiana baseball (27-13, 9-3) split a doubleheader with the Michigan State Spartans on Sunday afternoon at McLane Stadium.
GAME 1: MICHIGAN STATE 5, INDIANA 3
KEY MOMENTS
• Junior starting pitcher Tanner Gordon, who allowed two hits in five innings, was struck by a line drive with two outs in the fifth. He finished the frame, but did not return in the sixth inning.
• In the top of the sixth inning, junior Matt Gorski led off the frame with a single and then scored on senior Matt Lloyd's RBI double.
• Sophomore Cole Barr hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to put the Hoosiers ahead 2-0.
• Sophomore Justin Walker hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to up the lead to three runs.
• Michigan State strung together four hits, including a sun-aided double, resulting in five runs to give the Spartans the 5-3 lead.
NOTES
• In his five innings of work, Gordon struck out seven and didn't walk any hitters in addition to giving up just the two hits.
• Lloyd finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
GAME 2: INDIANA 11, MICHIGAN STATE 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Sophomore Drew Ashley led off the game with double. Gorski then followed with a two-run home run over the short porch in right field to put IU ahead by two.
• Back-to-back singles by Lloyd and junior Scotty Bradley in the fourth inning set up a two-run double for sophomore Elijah Dunham to make it a 4-0 game.
• Walker knocked out his second home run of the day in the sixth inning, a solo shot.
• After the Spartans plated a run in the sixth, Indiana came back with four runs in the top of the eighth, which included a two-run double from Gorski and an RBI single by Lloyd.
• Senior Wyatt Cross drilled a two-run home run in the top of the ninth to put the Hoosiers up 11-2.
NOTES
• Junior Andrew Saalfrank stuck out 11 hitters and gave up just one run on two hits.
• Saalfrank has struck out 10 or more hitters in four-consecutive starts and five-of-his-last-six starts.

Indiana heads to Victory Field on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to take on the Ball State Cardinals.
