Hoosiers Top Maryland on Senior Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis seniors were not going to lose their final match at home. After dropping the doubles point, the Hoosiers won all six singles matches to capture a 6-1 win against Maryland on Sunday at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Hoosiers (16-10, 6-5) finish with an above .500 Big Ten record for the first time since the 2014-15 season.
Maryland (3-18, 1-10) won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Senior Natalie Whalen and Caitlin Bernard won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, to improve their season record to 28-6.
Senior Madison Appel came out firing in singles as she won her match 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, where she has played all four years.
The Hoosiers went up 2-1 with a win from Jelly Bozovic at the No. 4 position. Whalen put Indiana up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 win and freshman Somer Henry clinched the match for Indiana with a 6-0, 6-4 win.
Caitlin Bernard and Michelle McKamey added wins for the Hoosiers to make the final tally 6-1.
Up next the Hoosiers travel to Nebraska for the Big Ten Tournament, which begins on Thursday April 25 in Lincoln, Neb. The Hoosiers will be the No. 7 seed and open against No. 10 seed Iowa on Thursday April 25 at 3PM ET.
