Hoosiers Fall to Iowa in Big Ten Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 7 seed Indiana women's tennis team had another close match with Iowa, but the No. 10 seed Hawkeyes won a third set singles match to clinch a 4-2 victory on Friday at Nebraska.
In doubles, Madison Appel and Jelly Bozovic won 6-3 at No. 1, but Iowa edged Indiana 7-6 at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to earn the point.
For Appel the victory in doubles was her 100th career doubles win. Appel is the first IU women's tennis student-athlete since at least 2006 to reach 100 doubles wins.
Iowa (13-11) won at No. 1 singles to go up 2-1, but the Hoosiers (16-11) responded with a victory by Bozovic and a victory from senior Natalie Whalen to go up 2-1 in the match.
Iowa could go up 3-2 with a win three-set win at No. 3, but the Hoosiers held a 5-3 lead in the fifth set at No. 5 and a 2-0 lead in the third set at No. 6.
Iowa was able to come back to win at No. 5, 7-5 in the third set to clinch the match.
In the regular season Iowa won against Indiana in a 4-3 match in Iowa City.
The Hoosiers finish the season 16-11 overall and 6-5 in the Big Ten. The 6-5 record in conference play represented the first time they have finished .500 or better in league play since the 2014-15 season.
