BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana offensive left guard Wes Martin was selected by the Washington Redskins in the fourth round (131st pick) of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville on Saturday afternoon.
Martin is the 13th Hoosier drafted by the Redskins and the first since quarterback Nate Sudfeld (2016). He is the third IU offensive lineman (Jason Spriggs, Dan Feeney) to hear his name called since 2016.
A two-time captain, Martin started the final 37 games, 43 overall, and played in 50 career games at left guard. He is one of four Hoosiers to appear in 50 games.
Martin was a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a three-time Academic All-District 5 team member, a two-time honorable mention All-Big Ten selection and a 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalist. The West Milton, Ohio, native graduated with a criminal justice degree in Dec. 2018.
He allowed just two sacks in 935 snaps his senior campaign and recorded the most pass blocking snaps (569) among guards nationally without allowing a sack as a junior.
Indiana has had 10 players selected since 2014 and at least one drafted in each of the last six years.
