
Hoosiers Fall Short to Arizona State, 16-6

Stanford, CA -The Indiana University women's water polo team fell 16-6 to No. 10 Arizona St. in the second round of action at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament. The Hoosiers put up a strong fight against No. 10 Arizona St. during today's matchup, but were unable to pull off a victory in the end.
No. 10 Arizona St. 16, Indiana 6
Arizona St. (13-12, 1-5) kicked off today's game strong with three back to back goals, grabbing the lead over the Hoosiers in the first quarter. With an assist from Emily Powell, freshman Tina Doherty finally put Indiana (6-17, 0-6) on the board tossing in the ball with one-minute left in the first.
The Sun Devils started off the second quarter with a fourth goal before Doherty found the back of the net to tally her second goal of the game. ASU went on to score five more points in the second, entering halftime with a 9-2 advantage.
During the third quarter of action, the Sun Devils tossed two more goals before Doherty registered a third goal for her eighth hat trick of the season. Arizona St. tacked on one more point in the third before adding five final points during the last quarter of today's matchup.
Indiana's offense came alive during the final minutes of action as three Hoosiers collected goals in an attempt to catch the Sun Devils. Powell led the Indiana surge with the first of the three goals before sophomore Carlie Crumbaugh tossed assists to both Izzy Mandema and Lauren Etnyre for the final two goals of the game.
The Hoosiers late rally helped close the gap against ASU, but in the end it wasn't enough to defeat the Sun Devils.
Defensively the Hoosiers picked up four steals throughout the game with two from Doherty and one a piece from Crumbaugh and Molly McGuire. Goalkeeper Mary Askew snagged three saves against the Sun Devils during the first half while goalkeeper Sarah Greeven grabbed another five in the second.
