
Hoosiers Sweep Doubleheader over Penn State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana baseball (19-12, 7-2 Big Ten) picked up a doubleheader sweep (5-3, 3-2) over Penn State on Saturday to win the series.
The Hoosiers had a strong day from senior Matt Lloyd, who drove in five runs and recorded two saves on the mound, over the two games. In game two, junior Andrew Saalfrank struck out 13 hitters that highlighted the win.
GAME 1: INDIANA 5, PENN STATE 2
KEY MOMENTS
• Indiana got on the board first in game one. Back-to-back singles by senior Wyatt Cross and sophomore Drew Ashley led to a three-run home run from Lloyd.
• Penn State strung together four hits in the fifth inning, including three-straight, to get three more runs to tie the game up at three.
• With one out in the bottom of the eighth and the game tied, sophomore Elijah Dunham doubled to left off the wall. Sophomore Cole Barr then drove in Dunham on an RBI double.
• After freshman Grant Richardson singled through the left side, junior Scotty Bradley hit an RBI double to give IU an insurance run and a 5-3 edge in the eighth.
NOTES
• Junior Tanner Gordon allowed three runs and six hits over six innings, striking out four and walking one.
• Bradley, Ashley, Dunham and Cross each posted multi-hit games, the 19th, eighth, seventh and first of their careers, respectively.
• On top of knocking out his 10th home run of the year and 30th of his career, Lloyd picked up his third save of the season and 19th of his career.
GAME 2: INDIANA 3, PENN STATE 2
KEY MOMENTS
• The Nittany Lions got on the board first in the top of the first, scoring on a passed ball.
• In the top of the third, Penn State's Gavin Homer hit a solo home run to left to give the Lions a 2-0 edge.
• The Hoosiers took the lead for good in the fifth. Cross started things with a single before Gorski doubled him in. Lloyd then followed in the frame with a two-run single to give IU the 3-2 lead.
NOTES
• Saalfrank went seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs with the 13 strikeouts and two walks. He has now struck out 39 batters over his last 22 innings.
• With his two-hit performance, Lloyd has now reached base in 25 consecutive games.
• With the save it marked the 20th of his career, which ties him for second all-time in program history with Chris Squires (2007-10).
• It was also Lloyd's 11th career saved Big Ten game, good for a tie for second in program history with Chris Wilson (1997-00).
