
Appel, Whalen Earn All-Big Ten Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the first time since 2014 the Indiana women's tennis program has multiple All-Big Ten honorees as seniors Madison Appel and Natalie Whalen earned 2019 All-Big Ten Women's Tennis recognition as selected by the Big Ten coaches.
Appel, a 2017 All-Big Ten honoree was a unanimous selection on the 2019 team following a season in which she recorded an overall singles record of 22-11, which included 8-3 in Big Ten competition at the No. 1 spot for the Hoosiers.

Following a stellar season in which she recorded a 28-6 record in singles (9-2 in Big Ten) and 29-9 in doubles (9-1 in Big Ten) Whalen earns her first All-Big Ten selection.

Appel and Whalen combined for 145 singles wins and 173 doubles wins in their four years on the women's tennis team.
"We are so proud of Madison and Natalie for earning this recognition," IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said. "It has been a true pleasure to coach them both and to help them develop their games over the course of their careers. They both registered special senior campaigns, and it give us great joy to see them honored by our fellow conference coaches. Madison and Natalie have both further etched their names in the history books of our storied program."
Sophomore Michelle McKamey earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
