BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana men's soccer's Jack Maher has earned his second invite to U-23 Men's National Soccer Team training camp, this time a domestic summer training camp in Herriman, Utah from June 9-16.
Maher, who was also invited U-23 camp in Spain during the spring as part of the group's cycle-opening friendlies, is just one of two collegiate players to earn the call, joining Stanford's Andrew Thomas.
The gathering in Utah marks another step in the U-23 MNT's long journey to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo as the USA aims to qualify for its first Men's Olympic Football Tournament since 2008. The U.S. will look to secure its Olympic berth early next year as one of the top two teams at the 2019 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship.
Maher had a standout rookie season with the Hoosiers in 2018, earning Freshmen First-Team All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. The Caseyville, Ill. native was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
On the season, Maher was one of only three players to start all 24 matches for the Hoosiers last season, helping Indiana make the College Cup for the second-straight season and finish with a record of 20-3-1.
Playing center back for IU, Maher helped the Hoosiers post a NCAA-best 15 shutouts in 2018 and allow just 13 goals all year.
