BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana women's tennis team was recognized by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Thursday.
The Hoosiers earned the ITA All-Academic Team honor and had four student-athletes selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
Madison Appel, Anna McCoy, Michelle McKamey and Natalie Whalen were recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
"I'm proud of our student-athletes for their academic accomplishments this year," IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said. "They work hard work on and off the court and it is nice to see them get recognized."
Michelle McKamey, a Community Health major, has been taking classes and plans to apply for optometry schools this summer.
"For me, academics have always been of the utmost importance and Indiana University has allowed me to excel in both athletics and academics more than I could have imagined," McKamey said. "This enables me to set goals and work on my future plans before most are even thinking about those options."
All-Academic teams boast a team GPA of 3.20 or higher. ITA scholar-athletes must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
