Five Hoosiers Set to Compete at USA Track & Field Championships this week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— The Toyota USA Track & Field Championships will begin on Thursday, July 25 and will wrap up on Sunday, July 28 in Des Moines, Iowa. Competing among some of the nation's great are Eric Bethea, Khayla Dawson, Daniel Michalski, Maddy Pollard, and Cooper Williams. Indiana Track & Field alumni Andy Bayer, Sarah Pease, and Monique Riddick will also be in action this weekend.
Bethea will compete in his first triple jump competition upon graduating from the program. In his final season with the Hoosiers he was able to capture All-America honors after hitting a PR mark of 16.65m (54' 7.5") at NCAA Championships last month. The men's triple jump final is set for Friday at 6:30p EST
Dawson and Pollard will both compete in the shot put. This will be the second competition of the summer for duo as they competed at Bloomington High Performance in June. Dawson was runner up while Pollard took third. They also earned their first outdoor All-America honor in the event at NCAA Championships. The women's shot put final will begin on Sunday at 7:20p EST.
Michalski makes his return to the steeple this weekend after garnering the program record at the Sunset Tour in Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. The recent program grad placed second with a time of 8:30.69.
Rounding out the field of Hoosiers, Williams will compete in the 800m at USA's for the second time in his career. The rising junior captured All-America honors at NCAA Championships in the event with a sixth place finish in a time of 1:47.76. The first round of the men's 800m will kick off at 7:47p EST.
Three IU alumni will compete in Des Moines, Iowa this weekend. Andy Bayer has the third best qualifying time as he will compete in the steeple alongside Michalski. Indiana Volunteer Assistant Coach Sarah Pease is set to compete in the women's 10K final on Thursday at 9:50p EST. Monique Riddick rounds out the trio of alumni as she will compete in the shot put on Sunday. Riddick was also chosen by Team USA to compete at the Pan Am Games in the shot put.
