Parsons Helps Canada To Bronze at Pan American Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana rising junior Mary Parsons (Delta, British Columbia) helped Canada win the first-ever medal in golf at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peruo over the weekend. The Canadian team finished third place in the Mixed Team standings to earn the bronze medal.
Individually, Parsons finished fifth out of 32 women's golfers with a 72-hole score of 2-over par after rounds of 68-73-75-70. Her opening round 68 gave her the lead after day one and also tied for the low score of the tournament.
"I think all four of us grinded out every shot to kind of get to where we are," Parsons told GolfCanada.ca. "We knew coming down the stretch we had to keep pushing because it wasn't going to be over until it's over."
The tournament format saw 15 countries send four golfers to compete – two men and two women. A men's individual champion was crowned along with a women's individual champion. The mixed team medals were awarded by taking the top men's score and top women's score for each country each day. Canada used Parsons' score for three out of the four rounds.
