BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's soccer head coach announced the addition of Christian Lomeli and Phalo Pietersen to the staff on Monday. Lomeli will serve as an assistant coach, while Pietersen will serve as the program's director of operations.
Lomeli will be the coach for the team's goalkeepers in 2019 after serving as an undergraduate assistant coach with the team last season. In 2018, Lomeli helped the Hoosiers lead the nation with 15 shutouts.
"We are excited to have Christian join our staff after finishing his undergraduate degree last season," Yeagley remarked. "Christian's primary responsibility will be training our goalkeepers. As a past goalkeeper at IU, Christian understands the importance and great culture we have within our GK group. Christian has learned from some of the best GK coaches in the country after finishing up his career at IU and Indy 11. He is a young bright star in the coaching profession."
Along with his duties last season with IU, Lomeli served as the head coach of the Alliance Soccer Club, helping the team reach the Indiana Presidents Cup State final. He also served as the Director of Goalkeeping at the Carmel Football Club from 2016-17.
During his collegiate playing career, Lomeli played two seasons at IUPUI and two with the Hoosiers. In 2016 at IU, Lomeli started all seven matches he played, posting a 0.53 goals-against average, while making 16 saves.
Pietersen will serve as the program's first director of operations. As part of his duties, Pietersen will assist with team travel, facility requests, team postgame recovery and fan engagement.
"It's great to bring back one of our past student managers to serve as our Director of Operations," Yeagley said. "Phalo's attention to detail, organizational skills and engaging personality will be a valuable asset to our soccer program. Phalo understands our proud tradition of excellence and we are excited to have Phalo help us continue to elevate the program in the years ahead."
Prior to IU, Pietersen served as the South Central Soccer Academy Director since 2014. He is also an active member of the Indiana Army National Guard since 2009. Pietersen was also a team manager for the program for three seasons.
Single game and season tickets for the 2019 season are now on sale. Prices are $7 for adults, $5 for youth (ages 3-18) and $4 for groups of 25 or more. Family Packages are $40 and fans will receive four tickets and food vouchers to be exchanged at the Armstrong Stadium concession stand. Family Packages must be purchased in advance of game day.
Flex Package tickets will also be available again this season. Each flex package will include eight vouchers to be exchanged on game day at any home IU men's soccer match. Adult flex packages will be $48 and youth (ages 3-18) flex packages will be $32
