Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/QBs Kalen DeBoer
On where the team is…
"I think we are well in to where we need to be. I am very pleased with what we've done. I just told the guys on the field to summarize from the scrimmage from Saturday. I told the players I said every time we've asked them to do something different, make a tweak here or there or an adjustment, it seems like they've handled it really well. It's a tribute to the coaches, first of all, communicating it and teaching it the right way, showing cut ups because guys learn different ways and then the players actually processing it and going out there and executing it quickly. Its football instincts, their IQ and then some of the guys that don't pick it up as fast I've just said that you guys who understand it need to help them along because there are some guys who haven't had as many reps or been involved with college football and the more complex schemes as long. Everyone's done a really nice job as far as the playbook is concerned. I think we have pretty much answers for whatever we are going to see here for quite a while in to the schedule."
On players seeing themselves on film…
"I think that we have a good organization to walkthroughs and the meetings before that. There's just a progression as far as installing it with the guys. Sometimes it's part so position groups and sometimes it's whole as a whole offense and me explaining what we're trying to accomplish with this concept. Then when you go through the walkthroughs, you've got to tie in signals and all that kind of stuff, so I think they're right on that. They've processed it many times before they have to run that rep live against the defense."
On the wide receivers…
"I think it's been so even on how I've distributed the reps. They had all summer long with Peyton (Ramsey), especially, who's worked with a lot of the guys and Mike (Penix) had gotten a lot of reps with them throughout the summer so the receiving corps has a lot of experience so they've been super consistent with what they do. We talk a lot in the film room about 'hey this is how this guy comes out of his breaks' and 'how he comes out' and it's been super consistent with those upperclassmen. Even the reps that are on field that we are watching on film, we are learning from those and making sure we are dialed in. Whop (Philyor), the way he runs certain routes are different than the way another guy might. We've been picking up on all those non-verbal cues and the receiving corps has done an awesome job. I'm confident who's ever at Q."
Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Darren Hiller
On the play of Harry Crider and Caleb Jones in camp…
"Harry's been very consistent. Harry's played a lot of football for us. He's a guy who didn't redshirt. Played a lot his freshman year, didn't play as much last year as probably he would have liked, but we were able to stay healthy last year. Harry's a steady guy. He graded out, not sure if he was our highest guy from our second preseason game, but he's been very consistent. Caleb Jones had some activity for us last season. He's still a work in progress in terms of getting better, but the offseason has been big for Caleb. I think from his first year to his second, I think he really upped his training level in the offseason and it's paying off for him right now."
On the development of depth along the offensive line…
"Well the great thing is, I think we have our solid five guys. From spring ball to now, there was a lot to be proven and we've got some good competition going to figure out who's going to be that sixth and seventh guy. We feel like we have some good competition for that eighth, night spot. I don't know if we will roll 10 guys in there this year or not, just depends as guys keep growing and getting better. I do feel a lot more comfortable than I did leading into camp. We knew summer was going to be big."
OL Hunter Littlejohn
On what's impressed him with the offensive line unit…
"I think the comradery and the chemistry that the first five guys have right now. We're really playing good football and I'm really encouraged with what we've done in fall camp. I think the big part now is adding a sixth, seventh, eighth guy to be able to be a part of that line. Super happy with the health and the overall attitude of the first group right now. We're really ready to go out and play football."
OL Harry Crider
On the strides the offensive line has made in fall camp…
"Huge strides. We gel well and everyday we're improving. We got to move a couple of guys around today for some different situations and still did well, so that' really a good thing to see. Guys are able to play different positions, learn the offense well and we're feeling really good about where we are right now."
