BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University men's golf head coach Mike Mayer has announced that Tate Heintzelman, a native of Granger, Indiana, has joined the team and will have two years of eligibility left beginning with the 2019-20 season.
"We are thrilled to bring Tate back home to Indiana and are equally as thrilled that he has decided to join our Hoosier family," Coach Mayer said. "We think he will immediately contend for a top five spot on our team as well as give us much better depth and internal competitiveness."
Heintzelman competed at Florida Gulf Coast University during the 2018-19 season, playing in 22 rounds and posting a 75.00 scoring average. His best round of the year was 3-under, which he accomplished twice. His best tournament finish was a tie for fifth place at the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, where he recorded rounds of 69-74.
After graduating from St. Joseph's High School, in 2016 he did not compete collegiately during the 2017-18 season before enrolling at FGCU. At St. Joseph's, he was a four-time all-conference honoree and garnered all-state accolades in 2016. He spent a postgraduate season with the Gilchrist Golf Academy following his high school graduation.
During the summer of 2018, he finished with a score of 215 at the Indiana Open Championship and also carded a 65 in the second round of the USGA U.S. Amateur qualifier at Sand Creek Country Club.
