
No. 2 Indiana Hosts UCLA on Fireworks Night on Sunday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 2 Indiana University men's soccer team will host the UCLA Bruins on Sunday, Sept. 1 in the 2019 adidas/IU Credit Union Classic at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium.
The match is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. ET start, with the annual fireworks show to immediately follow. Prior to the Hoosier match, Northwestern will play Pittsburgh at 5:00 p.m. ET.
The Indiana and UCLA match will be televised live nationally on BTN, with a stream available at BTNPlus.com. Live stats can be found at IUHoosiers.com.
SETTING THE SCENE
• Indiana opened the season with a dramatic, 3-2 come-from-behind victory on Friday over Pittsburgh. Joshua Penn, Ian Black and Herbert Endeley all notched goals for IU.
• Indiana is undefeated in the team's last 27 matches at Armstrong Stadium, posting a mark of 25-0-2.
• Last season, the Hoosiers won both the Big Ten regular season championship (15th time) and Big Ten Tournament championship (13th time) in the same season for the first time since 2006.
• Also, IU advanced to the College Cup for the second-straight year and for a NCAA-record 20th time in program history.
• Indiana earned the No. 2 overall for the 2018 NCAA Tournament, marking the 14th time in the
last 16 years since the current seeding format began in 2003 that IU earned a top-16 seed.
• The berth for the Hoosiers was the team's 32nd-straight bid to the NCAA Tournament and the 43rd overall in the program's history.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The preseason honors have piled up for Indiana sophomore Jack Maher prior to the 2019 season. Maher was the only sophomore named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and also earned preseason All-America honors from both Top Drawer Soccer (Second Team) and College Soccer News (Third Team).
• Freshman Joshua Penn was named to the preseason Freshman Best XI by Top Drawer Soccer. Indiana's 2019 recruiting class was ranked No. 2 in the nation by Top Drawer Soccer.
• Maher, along with Spencer Glass and Simon Waever, were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
• In the Big Ten preseason poll conducted by the league's coaches, Indiana was picked No. 1. Maryland was tabbed second, while Michigan was picked to finish third in the conference.
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
• UCLA opened the season with a 1-0, overtime win over Northwestern on Sunday at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic.
• Milan Iloski scored the winner in the 95th minute for the Bruins, while Justin Garces made seven saves in posting the shutout.
• Last year, the Bruins posted a record of 10-9, losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to Portland, 1-0.
• In the preseason poll conducted of the league's coaches, UCLA was picked to finish fifth in the Pac-12.
• Redshirt senior D Matthew Powell was named to the Pac-12 Preseason All-Conference Team.
SERIES HISTORY
• In the storied history between Indiana and UCLA, the Hoosiers are 10-8-0 in 18 matches against the Bruins.
• The 2019 season marks the 20th anniversary of IU's 3-2 win over UCLA in the 1999 NCAA Championship.
• The Hoosiers have won four of the last five matches against the Bruins, but are only 4-5-0 against them in Bloomington.
ENDELEY NETS GOLDEN GOAL TO OPEN SEASON
• Down 2-0 after 35 minutes, the Hoosiers staged a dramatic comeback against Pittsburgh in the team's season opener, winning 3-2 in double overtime.
• Freshman Joshua Penn scored the first goal of the season, while Ian Black tied the match for IU in the 57th minute.
• Freshman Herbert Endeley notched the golden goal for the Hoosiers in the 103rd minute, securing the win.
HOOSIERS TABBED BIG TEN FAVORITES
• The Hoosiers were tabbed as the Big Ten preseason favorites in a poll conducted of the league's coaches for the second-straight year.
• Along with being named the preseason favorite, IU's Spencer Glass, Simon Waever and Jack Maher were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List.
IU OPENS SEASON RANKED NO. 2
• After reaching the College Cup for the second-straight season, Indiana opened the season ranked No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
• IU was also ranked No. 5 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 9 by College Soccer News.
MAHER NAMED TO MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
• Sophomore D Jack Maher was named to the prestigious MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List prior to the season.
• Maher was the only sophomore named to the 36-player watch list.
• In the storied history of Indiana men's soccer, an IU player has been named the national player of the year 12 times, including IU head coach Todd Yeagley.
• Last year, Andrew Gutman won the award, while Grant Lillard was a runner-up in 2017. Tanner Thompson was a semifinalist for the Hoosiers in 2016.
INDIANA UNDEFEATED IN LAST 27 HOME MATCHES
• The Hoosiers are undefeated in the team's last 27 matches at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, posting a mark of 25-0-2.
• IU's last loss at home came to No. 20 Virginia Tech, 2-1 in overtime, on Nov. 27, 2016 in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.
