Game Notes: Indiana Hosts Ohio State

SETTING THE SCENE
• For the second time in three seasons, Indiana (2-0, 0-0 B1G East) opens conference play against the No. 6/6 Ohio State Buckeyes (2-0, 0-0 B1G East) at Memorial Stadium (52,656; FieldTurf) on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is set for noon EDT on FOX.
• The Buckeyes are the Hoosiers 12th Top-10 opponent since the start of 2015, tied for the third-most nationally with Auburn and Michigan State, behind Alabama (17) and Ohio State (13).
• IU also has faced eight Top-5 foes since the start of 2015, tied for the second-most nationally with Auburn and Clemson, behind Alabama (12).
• Indiana's 52-0 whitewashing of Eastern Illinois was the program's largest margin of victory in Memorial Stadium history and largest overall since a 54-0 blanking of Nebraska in Bloomington on Oct. 14, 1944.
• It marked the third shutout in Tom Allen's three-year tenure as head coach.
• The Hoosiers are off to a 2-0 start for the fourth time in five seasons.
THE COACHES
• Tom Allen was named Indiana's head coach on Dec. 1, 2016, and made his debut at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl against Utah. The New Castle, Ind., native joined IU as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. In Allen's two seasons as head coach, 21 Hoosiers have earned All-Big Ten honors and 15 have been drafted or invited to NFL camps.
• Ryan Day is in his first season as Ohio State head coach. He posted a 3-0 record as the Buckeyes acting head coach to open 2018 and owns a 5-0 overall mark. Day served as OSU's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the past two years after stints as quarterbacks coach with the 49ers (2016) and Eagles (2015).
NEWS & NOTES
• EIU gained just 116 total yards on Saturday, the fewest allowed by an Indiana defense dating back to 1966.
• IU's streak of at least one takeaway in 19 games, the longest in the country, and at least one interception in 11 straight contests, came to a close.
• The 52 points were the most by the Hoosiers since a 52-17 win vs. Georgia Southern on Sept. 23, 2017.
• Indiana's 555 total yards were the most since Nov. 5, 2016, at Rutgers (567), and its 441 passing yards were the most since Sept. 24, 2016, vs. Wake Forest (496).
• IU sits second in the Big Ten in passing offense (383.5, 8th nationally), and fifth in the Big Ten in scoring offense (43.0, T-23rd) and total offense (514.5, 27th).
• Kickers Logan Justus and Charles Campbell are 4-of-4 from 48-plus yards in 2019.
