Game Notes: Indiana Hosts Connecticut

Setting The Scene
• Closing out its non-conference schedule, Indiana (2-1, 0-1 B1G East) meets the Connecticut Huskies (1-1, 0-0 AAC) at Memorial Stadium (52,656; FieldTurf) on Saturday, Sept. 21. Kickoff is set for noon EDT on BTN.
• The Hoosiers have won 16 of their last 17 non-conference games, including eight straight.
• Former kicker Chris Gartner (1970-72) and linebacker Donnie Thomas (posthumously, 1973-75) will officially be inducted into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday and will be recognized at halftime on Saturday.
• BTN Tailgate, hosted by Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo, Howard Griffith and Michelle McMahon, will air live outside the west entrance of Assembly Hall from 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday.
• UConn holds a 2-0 edge in the series with a 34-10 win in Storrs (Aug. 30, 2003) and a 14-7 victory in Bloomington (Sept. 23, 2006).
The Coaches
• Tom Allen was named Indiana's head coach on Dec. 1, 2016, and made his debut at the 2016 Foster Farms Bowl against Utah. The New Castle, Ind., native joined IU as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016. In Allen's two seasons as head coach, 21 Hoosiers have earned All-Big Ten honors and 15 have been drafted or invited to NFL camps. (full bio on page 17)
• Randy Edsall is 79-91 (.465) over his two stints at Connecticut (1999-2010, 2017-). Edsall spent five seasons as Maryland's head coach (2011-15) and owns a 101-125 (.447) overall record.

• Ohio State marked Indiana's 12th Top-10 opponent since the start of 2015, tied for the third-most nationally with Auburn and Michigan State, behind Alabama (17) and the Buckeyes (13).
• IU also has faced eight Top-5 foes since the start of 2015, tied for the second-most nationally with Auburn and Clemson, behind Alabama (12).
• The Hoosiers have recorded a takeaway in 20 of their last 21 games.
• Redshirt sophomore tight end Peyton Hendershot shares the team lead with 13 receptions (T-6th in Big Ten) for a team-high 191 yards (11th) and a team-best two scores (T-7th).
• Among tight ends nationally, he shares fifth in catches, is fifth in yardage and shares eighth in TDs.
• His 191 yards rank 10th on the program's single-season list for tight ends.
• Fifth-year senior Donavan Hale became the 45th Hoosier to reach 1,000 receiving yards against OSU.
• Fifth-year senior kicker Logan Justus collected his 100th career point last weekend.
• Left tackle Coy Cronk, linebacker Reakwon Jones, right guard Simon Stepaniak and wide receiver Nick Westbrook are Indiana's 2019 captains.
