BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Columbus Crew SC announced on Tuesday the signing of Indiana men's soccer's Aidan Morris to a Homegrown Player contract. Morris will forego his remaining three seasons of eligibility with the Hoosiers.
Morris, a 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Third Team All-American, was also named Top Drawer Soccer Best Freshman, TDS Freshman Best XI, First Team All-North Region honors, Big Ten Freshman of the Year, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Freshman Team, and All-Big Ten Tournament Team honors in his lone season in Bloomington.
The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native registered a team-best eight assists and added two goals to give him 12 points for the year, the third-highest figure for IU. He recorded a team-best 10 of his 12 points in conference play. He was twice named to the TDS Team of the Week and added two Big Ten Offensive Player of Week laurels.
"Unfortunately, it is not the ending I wanted but it was an unforgettable season filled with lots of amazing memories and relationships made that will be forever lasting," Morris said. "I would like to thank the coaching staff for helping me grow as a player and more importantly a person. I would also like to thank my teammates who opened my eyes to a brotherhood that I never knew was possible. Thank you again to everyone who made this season unforgettable. GO HOOSIERS."
Morris is the seventh player in program history to ink a Homegrown Player contract, joining Jeremiah Gutjahr (Chicago Fire, 2019), Justin Rennicks (New England Revolution, 2019), Trey Muse (Seattle Sounders FC, 2019), Grant Lillard (Chicago Fire, 2018), Patrick Doody (Chicago Fire, 2015), and Tommy Thompson (San Jose Earthquakes, 2014).
The Crew are led by head coach Caleb Porter, a three-year team captain at Indiana in the mid-1990's. During his stint in Bloomington, the Hoosiers racked up four Big Ten Tournament crowns and three regular season titles.
