Gould Named Big Ten Diver of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana University junior Mory Gould was named Big Ten Diver of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The honor is the first of the season for Gould and the third collected by a Hoosier this season. Senior Mohamed Samy (Big Ten Swimmer of the Week) and freshman Brendan Burns (Big Ten Freshman of the Week) each collected conference laurels on Nov. 27, 2019.Â

He is the first Hoosier to win the Diver of the Week plaudit since James Connor earned his third weekly award of the 2018-19 season on Feb. 6, 2019.

Gould turned in a massive week in the diving well against the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines. The Potomac, Md., native notched a pair of victories in the 1-meter (339.75) and the 3-meter (422.17) events in the Donald B. Canham Natatorium.

His six-dive tally at the 3-meter height marked a new career best, while the 1-meter effort ranked as his top outing during the 2019-20 season. He moved up into the No. 12 spot in the all-time performer list in the 3-meter event with his score of 422.17.Â

The Indiana Hoosiers will be back in the pool for a dual meet on Jan. 25 against archrival Purdue.Â
