IUWS Announces Tara Ballay As Director Of Operations

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Women's Soccer Head Coach Erwin van Bennekom today announced Tara Ballay as Director Of Soccer Operations. Ballay comes to Indiana from Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey where she served as a Volunteer Assistant Coach of their Women's Soccer program.
"We are very excited to welcome Tara Ballay. This is a huge step forward as we continue to improve Indiana University Women's Soccer as the best environment to grow as a student, person and soccer player," said Head Coach Erwin van Bennekom. "Tara will be responsible for all of our day to day operations of our program while working closely with the coaching staff."
In her previous role at Rider University, Ballay was responsible for coordinating event details with visiting and host teams, assisting in the coordination of travel planning, team building, and team meals. She oversaw various aspects of team and student athlete development and facilitated daily operations such as coding of game video, coordination of set plays and recovery sessions. Her other duties included year-round coaching responsibilities, organization of external program events and creating content for social media.
"I am thrilled to take on the Director of Operations role with Indiana and would like to thank Erwin, the rest of the IUWS coaching staff, and Indiana University for the tremendous opportunity to join the Hoosiers," said Ballay. "I am undoubtedly looking forward to working with a coach who had a massive impact on my own playing career, contributing towards the exciting vision Erwin has for IUWS, and supporting the program's student-athletes and staff."
Ballay is an alum of the Rider Women's Soccer program having finished her stellar playing career ranked sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 20 goals and 45 points in only 53 games. She led Rider to three consecutive Metro Atlantic Athletic Association (MAAC) postseason appearances resulting in a MAAC Championship and NCAA tournament appearance. She was also awarded MAAC Offensive Player of the Year for the 2014 season.
A native of Delran, New Jersey, Ballay earned CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American honors as a senior and Second Team accolades as a junior. She was also a three-time MAAC All-Academic honoree.
She graduated from Rider University in May of 2016 with a degree in psychology having compiled a 3.90 cumulative GPA and becoming a member of the Dean's List.
Following graduation, she served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for Bloomsburg University's Women's Soccer program before returning to Rider in 2017. Ballay has also served as Head Coach and Trainer of Patriot FC in Newtown, Pennsylvania where she coached ages seven to 17. She will receive her master's degree in May of 2020 from the Athletic Leadership Program at Rider.
